On 18th June 2026 – The Federal Government announced significant modifications to the Assignment of Benefit (AoB) changes scheduled to begin on 1 July 2026.

Following strong advocacy from the RACGP, the new arrangements include:
- Verbal consent available in all settings for 12 months from 1 July
- Enduring AoB brought forward to 1 July for MyMedicare registered patients, aged care residents, and ACCHO patients (previously April 2027)
- A 12-month transition period with a focus on education, not enforcement
